Mostarda di frutta, or "mustard fruits", are a Northern Italian condiment made of candied fruit or vegetables poached in a mustard-flavoured syrup. They are a typical accompaniment to cheese and cured meats. Distilled mustard oil is added at the very end of the cooking process, and this particular type is a very mild mustard fruit.
Whole figs with a juicy and slightly spicy centre. Delicious alongside salami, or blue and fresh cheeses such as burrata and mascarpone.
